View Full Version : Case sensitivity in 6.0.1

I am seeing a case sensitive genre list in list genres of 6.0.1 using the
browser and Slimp3 clients. The list shows "AudioBooks" and "Audiobooks".

Is this a bug or expected behaviour? If it does this for genres will it
also be case senstive for artist names etc?

Sure you do -- don't post to mailing lists from your office account.
Seriously, that's the most obnoxious disclaimer I've ever seen, and I
work in email compliance for my day job.

Than-you everyone for the comments on the disclaimer - I agree, it is too
long and boring.

However......has anyone else seen the case sensitivity or knows if this is
expected behaviour or a bug?

Gavin - right now it's expected behavior - we aren't case folding genres.

If enough people think they should be collapsed, that's possible.

Uppercase should be the same as UpperCase and UPPERCase... etc...

Please keep as much as possible case sensitive. I like to know when I
have two different spellings in tags so I can correct them.

I'm with you, Christian, I rather like to consolidate my tags than
having slimserver hiding the differences from me.

(BTW: The same applies to spaces in artist's names, which seem to get
dropped sometimes: "B.<space>B.<space>King" becoming
"B.<NOspace>B.<space>King" - guess I'll have to file that one as a bug
sometime ...)

Even better... a switch to allow or disallow consolidation.

Do you have that space in the file / folder name(s) also? It seems to
me that SS sometimes prefers those over tags ...

The B. B. King-quirk seems to have something to do with composer tags.
All my songs from BB are correctly tagged as "B. B. King" as artist
and since I'm using iTunes to organize my music, the spaces are in the
folder names too.

I do have some other songs which he wrote, and there he appears as
"B.B. King" in the composer tag. Although I don't have "Include
Composer/Band" checked, this seems to confuse the slimserver. I'll
have to investigate further into this ...

Alexander.
