View Full Version : Rating tracks from the Squeezebox?

Hello all,

I've recently ripped my entire music collection to FLAC and I'm planning on getting a Squeezebox in the next few days.

While the majority of my collection is the most emmaculate tracks ever written to CD, there are a few tracks (here and there) that simply stink. Often these tracks are on CDs of otherwise prestine funky beats.

Ideally, I'd like to delete the track (not just from the playlist but from the hard drive) right from the Squeezebox, is this possible? Otherwise, is there some way to rate or tag the track right from the Squeezebox so that I can delete it later? (I've seen this done on iPods by rating tracks to be deleted later as one star)

A rating system is planned, but not yet implemented. However, there is a feature
that may do what you need. While playing tracks, press now playing on your
remote to go into the 'now playing' mode. If you get one of the stinky tracks,
just press-and-hold the ADD key. The player will then show a message 'zapping
song from playlist'. This deletes the currently playing song, and writes it to
a playlist called Zapped.m3u, located in your playlists directory (as long as
you have one set in the server settings). You can then refer to this later as
a list of songs you deemed too crappy to keep around :)

cheers,

No, there is no way to delete tracks from the interface.

You can 'zap' a song by holding down the add button while the song is playing. This will move the song to a playlist called Zapped Songs that you can refer to later.

On a similar note, I would like to do the same use the remote to "rate" songs. I'm looking for more than just adding to the "zapped" list.

I know that there is a plugin "trackstat" that allows you to do this from the web interface. However, I would like to do this from just using the remote. Does this functionality exist?

TIA

trackstat supports rating with the remote. just press/hold 1-5 to rate the current playing song...

or if your settings are to rate songs from 1-10, hold "one" through "zero" respectively.
