Hi,

I saw this on another message board and wondered if the comment about setting
digital volume to fixed being necessary to avoid D-A-D is correct:

"I have my squeezebox connected to a slightly modified ART DI/O DAC. It works
fine. However, make sure to set the squeezebox's bit stream rate (under player
settings) to unlimited, and set the digital volume to fixed (also under player
settings). Not doing the latter results in a D-A-A-D conversion, and when set
that way my DAC wouldn't even lock! "

tks

This is very wise and important.

This is just plain rubbish - there is no A-D conversion
hardware anywhere in the chain. All the fixed setting does
is stop digital volume control being used, i.e. the SB
volume control only affects the analogue outputs.

In fact, Sean has previously stated that having the volume
set to max (40 on the SB) provides the same results as for
fixed digital volume control.

I make sure I have the SB volume set to max for normal listening,
but I allow digital volume control for the sleep fade-out....

Cheers,
Mark.
