View Full Version : Slight skip five seconds into playing a song

Since upgrading to the 6.0 beta, I've noticed that certain songs have a
little "skip" about five seconds in. It doesn't happen on all songs, but
on the songs where it happens, I can consistently reproduce it.
Sometimes it sounds like about a quarter-second of the song gets
repeated, and sometimes it's just a half-second or so of silence. The
problem songs play fine on my computer through iTunes.

My songs are almost all 160 kbps AAC, and these are the only ones where
I've noticed it. I've tried using the stream at
http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 to play them through my computer, and I
hear the same skipping.

I'm seeing this bug with the following setup:
- SlimServer 6.0b2
- LAME quality level: 4
- LAME bitrate limiting to 192 kbps (same results at 320 kbps)
- OS 10.3.8
- 1.25 GB RAM
- Dual-800gHz G4

Should I file a bug report for this?

I'm getting a similar effect with 6.0b2. When letting a playlist run is occures
a few seconds in and can leave a 4 or 5 sec gap. If I skip using the remote the
song starts OK but the same effect may occur minutes in. The gaps are associated
with the processor activity going to 100%ish.

The problem may be with the web server end of things, if I have no browsers
monitoring Slimserver I don't seem to get the same problem.

Any thoughts?

I think we're seeing different problems. In my case, it happens with no
web browser open. And on the tracks that have the skip, I can reproduce
it every time I play them, in the exact same place.

I've just downloaded the nightly from the 23rd and it looks like the problem is
gone is normal use.

I still get small gaps when I do things like switch to fishbone for the first
time or Browse Artwork. Is there anything I can tweak for this? Or is it
perhaps a result of the FLAC/buffersize/processor usage interaction that I will
have to live with.

Many thanks all.
