Hi,

I installed the latest 6.0b1 nightly (03-12-2005) on Windows XP. The
installation went fine but the service doesn't start. When I try to start it
manually I get an error message:
"Slimserver service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services
stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example the Performance
logs and Alert services."

do you see anything else in the event viewer?

what happens if you run:
c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe

Hi kdf,

By the way I noticed that the nightly is 6.0a2 and not b1...
To answer your questions, I see this in the event viewer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date: 12/03/2005

DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event: DBD::SQLite::db do
failed: table metainformation already exists(1) at dbdimp.c line 268
at /PerlApp/Slim/DataStores/DBI/DataModel.pm line 67, <$fh> line 86.
..

And executing slim.exe gives:

Michel - sounds like your installation isn't quite complete.

Could you try with the latest nightly build, and removing your database (slimserversql.db) first?

Many bugs have been fixed between the last alpha build and now.

Thanks.

Hi Dan,

I deinstalled everything and re-installed the latest nightly and it now works.

Perhaps the cause was the fact that I tried one of the previous alpha then
went back to 5.4.1 before trying this new beta and perhaps the different
versions got mixed up...

Note, I still see the composers in the artist list on the SB itself (not in
the server UI).

Thanks.

Michel - I fixed that bug about :30 minutes ago. :)

It will be in tonight's build.

Thanks.

Cool! I am now really impatient to get the two SB2 I ordered yesterday :-)

Hi Dan,

I just installed the latest nightly (03-13) and it indeed fixed the issue with
the composers and artists.

I still have a minor issue though, the system is telling me that there is 1 "No
Album" in 1 "No Genre" and 1 "No Artist" containing 2 Songs. When I browse on
the server or on the SB I cannot find these 2 songs (the No Album that I can
locate doesn't contain anything).

The counts in slimserver are:
227 albums, 112 artists, 16 genres and 2682 songs
The counts on the Squeezebox are:
228 albums, 113 artists, 17 genres (doesn't match what I can see in Information
about Library which is giving the same as slimserver)
The counts in iTunes are:
225 albums, 111 artists, 15 genres and 2682 songs

Note that with 5.4.1 both the slimserver and SB are giving the same counts as
iTunes (225,111,15,2682).

I talked too fast: if I browse using the Browse Artist then it looks correct
(only artists and no composers) but if I use the Browse Genre and then select
one genre instead of finding the artists I still find the artists and the
composers...

Ok - thanks. That gives me a better idea of where to look.

More specific bug reports always help. :)
