I brought up 6.0b1 tonight, and while it was rebuilding the database it
abruptly exited with these messages:

Use of uninitialized value in multiplication (*) at
/usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Player/SqueezeboxG.pm line 65.
Can't use an undefined value as an ARRAY reference at
/usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Player/Squeezebox2.pm line 209.

Is the server supposed to just exit when it encounters an error like
this instead of trying to continue?

it's called a bug. Sometimes the server keeps going, but when it can't safely
continue, it crashes. its a recently reported problem:
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1047

we'll be fixing it soon.
