    OT: fuse question

my power supply has just experienced an electrical event which has blown its
fuse. (enermax 485 watt noisetaker) the fuse is a 5mm x 20mm glass and i
    believe, from the markings, it's a 10amp 250v. i'm having a terrible time
trying to find a replacement for this (new york city) as radio shack doesn't
carry them. can anyone tell me a) if this is a fast acting/slow burn/time
delay etc... fuse and b) where i might be able to buy/order these? my local
computer repair shop just shrugged at me and told me to replace the power
    supply :/

to keep this vaguely on topic - this is the machine that runs my slimserver
so i'm tuneless at the moment!!

    thank you!

It is most likely a slow-blow type fuse. The delay is needed to
compensate for current inrush at power-up (i.e. power supply capacitors
charging). Fast acting fuses are usually uset for other types of
circuits where they must open quickly and a surge would (should) nevere
occur normally. There may be some other numbers on the fuse that
indicate the response time. I would look at DigiKey
    (http://www.digikey.com) for a replacement.

Try any of the big name electrical suppliers (too bad you don't have a
      Fry's near you):

      Mouser: http://www.mouser.com
      Allied Electric: http://www.alliedelec.com
      DigiKey: http://www.digikey.com
      PartsExpress: http://www.partsexpress.com/

Make sure to watch for the minimum order size on Allied and/or Digikey.
      Good luck.

If it's the voltage rating that's making it difficult to obtain then don't
worry about it, It's the current rating that's important. If you can only
get a 110V 10A fuse then it will be the same.
Also a T in the current rating designates a time delay or slow blow fuse ie.
        T10A=10A slow, 10A= 10A normal.

          OT: fuse question

I hate to be a party pooper but my experience is that when a switching
power supply blows the protection fuse, it often is a sign that
something pretty terminal has happened to the power supply itself. I
don't mean to discourage you from replacing the fuse with another -- but
don't be too surprised if the new one blows instantly (meaning that the
          PSU is toast).

          Cheers,
          Cwi

thanks for the tip. also thanks to all of you who gave me links to buy
fuses. amazingly, i finally found the one i needed, but balked at ordering a
hundred of them.. i got a new powersupply from new egg this morning. the old
one is a paperweight. back to slimserver stuff now...
