This looked like so much fun, I tried it myself...

$ find /opt/media/music/ -name "*.mp3" | wc -l
3794

Slimserver says:

Your music library contains 705 albums with 3900 songs
by 542 artists.

Granted, I am still running 5.3.1 (quite tolerable
with my SliMP3, have not had time/motivation to
upgrade recently), but you still seem to have lucked
out a bit in only being off by one.

Totally looking forward to 6, though. :-)

Cheers,

Mike

I recently spent quite some time cleaning up my tags after buying an
iPOD. I thought my tags were in reasonable shape, but browsing the
iTunes library showed lots of missing tags. This is caused by the fact
that started ripping my collection some years ago with a homegrown app,
and it did a poor job of tagging obviously. It took me a few days to
get all the IDv1 and IDv2 tags lined up, but now everything is working
perfectly:

> find . -type f | grep -v cover.jpg | wc -l
7475

Your music library contains 507 albums with 7475 songs by 767 artists

I also am not that religuous about accented letters in either tag or
filename - I just use the unaccented letters. I just want to be able
to find (all) my music, and the standard lower ASCII stuff works fine
for me (maybe lack of Hebrew/Chinese/Japanese songs in my collection
helps as well... :-).

Running latest official 5.4.0 release.

I tried this too, and found that Slimserver was reporting
2 songs more than the find reported.

Intrigued, I opened up the "find" to look for other file
types, and lo and behold 2 .wav tracks appeared that hadn't
been converted to Flac's properly...

Are you sure you don't have a pile of .wav files in your
music directory which didn't make it to MP3 for some reason?

Cheers,
Mark.
