View Full Version : Too many MP3 files ?

Of course keep in mind that, in version 5.4.1 at least, the number of songs
in your library (as reported by slimserver) seems to be based on pure
imagination.

My library actually contains 2731 MP3 songs, no more, no less. Slimserver
is currently reporting, rather hilariously in my opinion, that "Your music
library contains 4072 songs by 106 artists".

If I perform a wipe cache the number of songs will look *almost* correct --
until I start playing something, after which it is never correct again, and
in fact is constantly changing.

I say "almost" because after great effort and MUCH massaging of ID3 tags to
get slimserver to "see" as much music as possible, there is still one
oddity: Immediately after a "wipe cache", slimserver correctly reports 2731
songs -- but if I "add all" to the playlist, only 2730 songs are added. I
have tracked down the one song, and can find no reason why it wouldn't be
added to the playlist even though it is listed in the library.

What else can I say? So the numbers are off. Big deal. Other than that,
5.4.1 is stable and I'm happy with the performance.

But still, I'm looking forward to a stable -- and more *accurate* -- Version
6!

what are you using to manage id3 tags? I bet there's a difference
between id3v1 and id3v2 tags in many files. Add to that Slimserver's
attempt to guess the information from the file name when it can't figure
out what's in the tags, and you'd see the kind of oddness you're
describing. It does work properly when all the tags say the same thing.
