View Full Version : When are we going to see live forums?

The entire point of posting this was simply to ask for status. We all know
how many of you are super satisfied with your email delivery of Slim
Discussions. Try to understand that it does leave many folks wanting a
better (for them) solution.

A lot of people don't want to read every single message that comes into a
discussion list every day, they just want to pick out what they want,
subscribe to that single thread and keep up with it.

Threaded email lists are fine, but I actually get an audio confirmation tone
when I receive mail because I use this PC for work (imagine that) and it's
distracting when I am working on a project, think project mail arrived and
nope, just more slim discuss stuff. Not to even mention having to go
through all of those threads, delete most of them, purge deleted items, etc,
etc, ad naseum. And how many of you can see your mom/dad/brother/neighbor
setting up threaded email and understanding how it works? Thought so.

The bottom line here is that I'm sure the email discussion lists will remain
very lively for the die-hard commited folks or for the developers who
continue to deliver such wonderful add-ons to the Slim product, but for the
regular Joe 6 Pack folks (you know, 99% of the target market for this
product) a fully featured forum is LONG overdue.

Here we go again ;)

You don't have to read EVERY single message that arrives, honestly,
and I'd recommend turning that audio confirmation off, or just subscibe to
the mailinglist to another (private?) account.

Also, with just a little simple rule, most mail apps will let you move specific
types of email straight to their own folder. Nice and easy! You know where
to find them and you can check them when you have time.

I think the regular Joe Sixpack will be using the email and/or phone support
mostly... but I can agree with you all that a web interface would be good
for the not so average Joe&Co, and a nice Search function.
(Not for me though, I can wade through my 18k+ slim mails when I need to
find anything ;))

cheers!

If you have invites, send them. If you need one, get one.
