View Full Version : Ripping service in the UK/auto-ripping

A) The Slim ripping service looks great - if I was in the US, I'd want to
use it. Does anyone know of a similar service in the UK?

B) Failing that, I'm guessing a lot of people in the past have faced this
same question. If I set up a headless Mac server (I think it's probably
going to be a G4 Cube, but that's probably not especially relevant) has
anyone got a solution for an auto-ripping setup, either hacked together with
AppleScript or some nice product?

I'm thinking of something where I push a CD in; it looks it up on
CDDB/GraceNote, gets all the tags, rips the tracks according to some
settings somewhere, files the mp3s, and ejects the CD.

I've seen many discussions about ripping software concentrating on
audiophile qualities (I'm not and never will be one of those), and about
different aspects of speed and efficiency - but I don't actually care about
any of those things, if I could find a solution that works completely
headless (but I guess should somewhere log tracks it failed on).

Answers to either or both of these questions gratefully received.

iTunes on either Windows or Mac does exactly this, you will have to
change some preferences, by default it plays rather than rips. But as
you describe, i've set it up to read, file and eject. Remember to
change the encoding to mp3, i choose custom vbr 256.
