Hoping that someone has seen this and has an idea on what the problem
could be...

Here's the problem:
When configuring the squeezebox, everything seems to work properly. It
finds the network, finds the slim server when its running, but once
it's all configured I get the message saying "Problem: Lost contact
with SlimServer. Check that the software is running."

I'm running Slim Server version 5.4 on a Dual 500 G4 with OS X 10.3.7
I'm connecting the squeezebox through a D-Link DI-624 wireless router.

I've opened ports 9000 and 3483 on the OS X firewall through the
sharing preference panel.

I've tried connecting via both wired and wireless connections and have
the same problem.

I can run softsqueeze, so I think the server is working properly.

Has anyone experience this? Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
JL

Sounds a lot like my problem. I'm running OS X 10.3.9 on a Mac Mini, SlimServer verson 6.0.2. I get through the squeezebox setup until "Problem: Lost contact..." at the very end. I'm using the same router, a D-Link DI-624. The strange thing is, it used to work! I don't know what changed, maybe some OS X security update or a router failure. I can't browse or telnet to the slimserver from an outside box either. The slimserver log doesn't show any connections being received when I try. Very frustrating, as this turns my squeezebox into a very expensive paperweight. I'm also having a similar problem with outgoing POP connections to one particular mail server, but not others. Do routers ever flake out like this?

I figured out my problem. It turned out the flakey component was the one behind the keyboard. I had misconfigured the slimserver security settings such that the squeezebox was not allowed to contact the server. On top of that I misread the slimserver debug log file on the first pass. The slim devices tech support folks got me on the right track.
