I was surprised when this Pi3B/IQ Audio DAC+ combination was easily powered by my Anker battery bank.

My first foray into a wifi implementation.

Now I can enjoy my music in hi-res in my favourite armchair.

Great way. A pi zero with dac would be a alternative

Now, if you could mount the Pi+ and the Power Supply into a comfy hat, you'd be truly self-contained......

Great Ronnie,

I've bought a couple of custom leads for my AKG's from a company in Swadlincote, Custom Lynx. They're very good and reasonably priced. You can see one in the original picture (mini jack to mini xlr).

I came to the same conclusion when I'd got this working. I bought a short Anker cable from Amazon and also A USB switch after I tried to modify a project box but found the combination of my advanced years and too powerful a soldering iron overwhelmed the tiny switch.

Ronnie, I had to give up cycling a couple of years ago and my interest in the grand tours has declined I'm afraid but I do like watching the track cycling at the various events. Apparently there are some here in Birmingham next year at the Commonwealth Games. Maybe I'll go to one or two of those. I'm 74 now, I know my hearing isn't what it used to be in frequency terms but the music still sounds great when I've got my headphones on.

You have loads of DAC's and players always wanted to try a Khadas Tone Board but haven't got round to it yet.

Incidentally I noticed I inadvertently referred you to an incorrect link in my last post. The correct link for AKG's etc is:

The Khadas Tone Board is an incredibly good DAC for its price but decent cases are difficult to find. The best one I found was Audiophonics

Audiophonics case.

Khadas Tone Board sitting on top of Pi4 in Pibox Pro case. The width dimension is the same on both as luck would have it.

May I ask (to anyone doing this):

a) what capacity powerbank (mAh)?
b) roughly what duration of portable playback do you get from a full charge?

Thanks in advance!

Well, mine are all old Anker units, 10000mAH (max output 3.0 amps).

It has two 5 Volt outputs but the both don't supply 3 amps each

So I would say you want 5 volts at 3 amps through at least one output, as the current draw is often greater at power on.

I have some older ones which allow "pass through" which means they can be charged at the same time they are being used.

Non are modern enought to have "Smart" connections so I don't know if that feature will be a help or hindrance.

Length of use depends on volume and workload put upon the rapberry pi, also the impedance of the headphones. (that's a techie as I get :p)

Are you near to Dingwall at all ?

I use an Anker 20100 which Amazon say can supply up to 4.8A. It has four blue leds indicating the state of charge. I tend to recharge mine when it gets down to 2 leds showing. Can't say how long it would run till the battery was flat, haven't tried using that way. I did buy my (very short) USB lead from Anker, no use having a cheap, longer than needed USB lead absorbing some of the power.

Neat. Guess the battery usage is somewhat lower with the Pi Zero W.

Thanks for the responses on the Khadas Tone Board.

I have other projects on the go at the moment and don't have the time to devote to following this up.

Neat !! :)

Would it be possible for you to knock up a simple "how-to" when you have time, please.

The Apple dongle is a bargain at 9 delivered, I have a couple, and thanks to paul- they work on pCP :)
