View Full Version : Softsqueeze/Nokia interaction

This is somewhat off topic, as I'm sure this is Java weirdness, but it
does involve Softsqueeze. I installed Nokia's PC Suite
(<http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,54691,00.html>) on my laptop to support
synching with a new phone. After doing that I can no longer run
softsqueeze. When I invoke the softsqueeze jar file it launches Nokia
PC Suite! I uninstalled the Nokia program and softsqueeze returned
(although Windows did ask what file it should use to invoke the jar file).

Anybody else seen this or have a thought on how to get the two apps to
coexist?

Have you tried starting SoftSqueeze manually from the command line ("java
-jar SoftSqueeze.jar") with the Nokia soft installed? If yes...

....create a shortcut executing the above command. Maybe Nokia registers
the .jar extension for its application?

that was your first bad move ;-) Great phones, terrible software.
Never got the thing to work reliably with my 6210 or 6310 and i've not
heard about it getting much better in the interim.

Looks like that's what is happening. My old shortcut was just the jar
file, but adding the explicit java command fixed it. I guess Nokia
assumes that they are the only java app on my compter.
