View Full Version : Qube3 confusion.

Hi all.

Have seen a post in the December archive regarding running the
Slimserver on a Qube3.

I had a couple of questions I'd appreciate a hand with:

I've installed the 5.4.0-noarch rpm, but of course "out-of-box" it
isn't working...

1) The cachedir issue that is discussed in the December post - how
exactly is that fixed ? (I've done a little search in the developer
list, but I've clearly missed something)

2) The order of the "--user" parameter - where exactly does this need
to be changed ?

(I've upgraded the original antique Perl installation to 5.8.3, so
that bit is sorted...)

A slightly separate question (and apologies if slightly off topic -
it's at least peripherally related) - as I've just obtained the Qube3
box and I'm a (reasonably) knowledgeable, but not "power" user - I'm a
little confused about which rpm architecture for FAAD2 is appropriate
- or should I simply use the source distribution and build from
scratch ?

If an RPM directly for the Qube could be made - that would be fab - it
would certainly help me - how many Qube3/Squeezebox users are there
around ?

Many thanks,

Youra.

I had better results by using a recent nightly build ...

IIRC, I dealt with this problem by tinkering with the init scripts that
come with the RPM. I think they refer to functions like 'daemon' that
a RedHat installation would get from including its /etc/init.d/functions,
the Qube3 didn't have these, so I bodged it by invoking the slimserver.pl
script directly with the --user and --daemon arguments.

I had previously (manually, not through the Qube's web interface) setup
a new user called 'slim' and this meant the cache and preferences files
ended up living in /home/slim, which is where I also put my music and
playlist directories.

www.depopo.net by any chance ?
It's a great Qube3 resource if you haven't seen it yet.

I think it's recommended to build from the CVS version at audiocoding.com
http://www.audiocoding.com/modules/mydownloads/visit.php?cid=3&lid=19

Well, I'm running Debian (Sarge) on my Qube3, so I'm not sure I really
count, but I'd be interested to see how many other Cobalt users are out
there too.
