Sorry for the newbie question. I'm loving softsqueeze on my Mac, but
it keeps wanting me to install the java mp3 plugin. I've downloaded
it, but have no idea where to put it. I've tried both the
/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory, and the lib folder inside the
softsqueeze directory. Neither one works, or rather, I keep getting
told I should install the plugin. Can someone tell me where to put it?
(I know, I'm setting myself up for a rude joke here)

We're talking about a plugin to your java installation, not a browser
plugin. Sun's page is pretty explicit about it
(http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/mp3/download.html): "The jar
file will be installed in the /lib/ext directory, where stands for the
location on your system where the Java Runtime Environment is installed.
For instance, on windows, this could be something like C:\Program
Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_01." Can't talk for Mac, though. I guess it would be
something like /Library/Java...
