View Full Version : New squeezebox and gapless playback

I have just recieved my first squeezebox after using softsqueeze for
many months. Very impressed - however....

My flac tunes play back gapless on softaqueeze, but there is a short gap
on exactly the same albums when I listen on my squeezebox (about 0.2
sec), which is connected to the same server as softsqueeze was.

The squeezebox is wired, bitrate limiting is set to no limt, no 'lame'
processes are running when I play flac music.

My server is 5.4.1 nightly (about 3/4 days old), on Mandrake 10. My
softsqueeze connects wirelessly whilst the squeezebox plugs straight
into the switch. Firmware is version 40.

Connected to an analouge amp, and I have tried both 'digital output
level is fixed' and 'volume controls adjust digital outputs'.

My server is a celeron 633 with 256mb, which may be a little
underpowered. However I dont think this is the problem as when
softsqueeze connects the files are gappless - even if softsqueeze is
running on the same machine as the server or when softsqueeze and the
squeezebox are playing at the same time.

Help!

This is an odd bug.

Just found that Ben Cook had the same problem:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/gforum.cgi?post=28540;search_string=gapless%20play back;guest=3032#28540

Seemed it is fixed by turning off the 'save history' in the behavour
area of server settings. This indeed makes my flac files now play back
gapless.

However:
1) Why does this only affect my squeezebox and not softsqueeze
2) Should this option be turned off by default if this causes horrible
gaps in servers which are nto super powered?

Cheers
