I down loaded a couple of songs from I tunes hoping to playback on my
Slimserver. They seem to be encoded in MP4 format and will not play on
anything but Itunes supplied player. I tried changing Preferences to encode
as MP3; didn't work. The folder is there but Slimserver is showing it as
empty. Can anyone tell me how to use Itunes and Slimserver?

you cannot use the files directly. iTunes enforces digital right management
controls on any files downloaded from iTunes music store. You can, however,
burn the songs to CD and rip them to the format of your choice afterwards.

The HYMN stuff - particularly the Java version - is awesome. As if tailor-
made for SlimServer (tick "Save to different directory" and set your music
library). Latest stuff should also remove all traces of Apple origin so that,
fingers crossed, cat'n'mouse will not be an issue.

Personally, I agree with the philosophy of the guys behind HYMN. I am not a
pirate (I pay for my music), but I believe that DRM makes the unwitting
consumer a conscript to the industry's cause of eroding our traditional
copyright laws.

Give HYMN a try and enjoy !
