View Full Version : Treat multi-volume disks as single album

I just switched from many-album to single album mode whilst my SqueezeBox was playing a track.

When I pressed the Change button, SqueezeBox stopped playing, and SlimServer UI stopped responding. I closed SlimServer and restarted. It is stuck at the "Starting up..." dialog.

I assume that changing the option forces SlimServer to do a full rescan, but even so, I would expect SlimServer to continue in some capacity.

I closed SlimServer.exe (the UI app), and tried to restart Slim.exe (the service). Windows reported that the service started and stopped. Looking in task manager, Slim.exe was still running, so I killed this and restarted the service.

I have restarted SlimServer.exe, and can still see multi-disk albums expanded (I checked that the preference option had been changed to "treat as single album").

I have done a rescan, but the multi-disk albums are still expanded. Do I have to wipe cache for this to change?

I have switched to treat them as single albums.
This has worked for me, except the track ordering gets totally screwed up
which is annoying !!!

Hi Phil, I ran into a problem with this as well. This option relies on
some non-standard tag that iTunes provides. I think there's a Windows tool
that can do it as well, but I don't recall the name. Short answer is that
it doesn't work as advertised unless you're using certain library
management programs.

I have set the tags - which are "position in media set" or something
similar.

I have set these to 1 of 2, 2 of 2 etc.
and ensured that the album tag is consistent.
It does then merge them but unfortunately as I said the track ordering goes
crazy.

Rgds,
Bruce.

I assume you mean "Position in media set".
My tags are fine.

both of these bug reports exist for this problem or similar.

The multi-disk tagging is really not very well handled, nor is it a very good
standard. Clearly there is room for redesigning this to work for a broader set
of users, ie parsing album tags for (1 of 2) etc, as well as getting the
sorting to work.

perhaps there is enough time to have this put in as a target for 6.0
