i am very confused, my flacs don't sound right. i am a new squeezeboxer
wired user. music sounds rushed wheres the decay? i found a pitch
setting in the settings menu but now i'm really confused. i searched
this forum and it seems 100% for flacs isnt right and it's up in the air
what is. i don't understand, i thought squeezebox's main deal was
flac. is it possible to get defacto 100% accurate speed playback using
flac with squeezebox and slimserver. wow this is one problem i never
thought i would have to face using my computer as the transport!

Does this seem to match the problem you are having?
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=777

if so, this is a known problem and has come up in this forum only recently.
There is a patch submitted to fix this bug, but it has not gone through review.
Once the review is passed, this would become part of the 6.0 nightly builds, and
possibly 5.4.1.

In the meantime, for use with 5.4.0 or current nightly builds, try using a pitch
setting of 92%. i can't say for sure how well this will work, as it is just a
simple calculation based on the numbers used in the patch.

Perhaps Triode will respond to your post shortly with more helpful information.
Triode was the user first to report this problem, and supply the patch.

cheers,

If the pitch is set to something other than 100% when playing flac files
then the squeezebox needs to be reset to get working properly again.
Pitch apparently only works with mp3 files. I read on this list when I
had a similar problem to play an mp3 file to 'reset' the issue or set
the pitch to 100% and reboot the squeezebox (not the server - as that
doesn't work).

It's worked perfectly for me and hopefully a patch will be added that
either a] makes the pitch setting work for all formats, or preferably b]
removes pitch setting for formats that can't be done.

Stephen.

Spot on Stephen - I think this is what Sketchmaster is seeing.

For reference, with pitch set at 100% and playing though an external hifi DAC using the digital output, my flacs sound very good.
(almost as good as my high a high end CD transport with all sorts of modifications to improve its sound.)
If you are playing directly out of the analogue outputs, then you must bear in mind that the Squeezebox internal DAC is a good, but
not upto high end hi-fi standards.

Once you reset to the correct pitch (and left alone) you should be very happy!
