View Full Version : Protecting the default squeezebox settings

For those users that install and maintain the Squeezeboxes themself, and
know what they do, the option to manually re-install the device settings
after a reboot may be obvious.
But that leaves some situations where the settings should better NOT be
changed manually, and the device should just reconfigure itself using the
previous settings.

Recently I have had some installation trouble with end users tweaking the
default IP settings after a restart by pressing right button to begin setup
(because the device told them so :-), and then ruin the default settings
because they don't know what to do. This made me wonder if it could be
possible to protect the installation setting for default users and enable
these stept through some sort of (password) protection, leaving just the
auto-reconfigure option. (Note: I'm talking about the Squeezebox itself
here, not about the server)

This may sound a bit far-fetched, but just think of the SB used in a bar or
restaurant, used by lots of employees, or in hotel rooms - you wouldn't want
every visitor user to fiddle with the installation settings after a restart!
And even in a home setting, maybe the setup should be protected for curious
children or visitors..

As far as I know, there is no such protection on the player-side. Or am I
overlooking something?
