For a second time this week by slimserver/winxp crashed, my alarm didn't go
off and I got to work late. Really!

So I am dumping winxp and slimserver and making a dedicated Fedora FC3
Linux box (shuttle). I know it will ask me whether I want to install as a
desktop/workstation/server - which do I choose?

Server - cause it is for the slimserver
Or desktop cause that will have a better gui?

Thanks
Katherine

I choose "custom" and "install everything" when doing Fedora installs.
That takes up about 6-8GB of space these days, but HD space is rarely an
issue these days.

I find that the "non-everything" installs-- Server and Desktop, e.g.,
often leave out this or that package that I end up needing. You can
always install whatever you want at a later date, but I'm lazy and would
prefer it all to be there to start.

my 2 cents. I'm sure there are other views

I tend to do the "custom install" (if available) and select as little as
possible. On a slimserver you won't need OpenOffice (desktop) nor
Apache/Squid/MySQL (server).

Do a desktop install. It does not really do much except change the
packages put in. You can add the missing element to either. Desktop
will at least give you a GUI from which to control things - also
installs sound support, GRIP, etc.
