I am running Slimserver on a 733MHz G4 Quicksilver (1GB RAM), with a
library of 25,000 songs. I have no speed issues whatsoever. As long as I
don't try to search, it works like a charm.

I also use the machine as a normal desktop workstation.

I have not tried XP, but I ran the same library on a Win2000 Server (800
MHz, dual processor) and performance was noticeably slower, but not too
bad. I moved my library to my Mac minorly for speed reasons.

Hope this helps.

Bill

I tried running it on XP with my library (6000 songs) and it was DOG
SLOW, taking 100MB of memory. It frequently just stopped. I'd go to
the :9000 page to do something, and it wouldn't respond, so I would
look at the service and it had just stopped, no warning.

It runs GREAT on my 700mhz linux box though. Rock solid. I would
assume the same would be true on a mac with OSX, but I can't speak to
that...

Bill - have you tried the 6.0 builds? Searching should be much improved.
