hi,
i have been reading about predixis musicmagic integration
with slimserver. it seems all fairly new but certainly some
have got it working fine and been able to generate mixes
from their squeezebox.

kdf has written a few times that you need an earlier build
(Nov 24 through Nov 29 which was prior to the branching of
5.4.1 and 6.0). He/She mentions it's not available but there
is a 5.4.1 on the nightly download site. Is this the one i
need?? If not is there any way to get an earlier build?

If not, any other useful info in order to get musicmatch
working with slimserver would be gratefully appreciated.

thanks,
rob

This is a build based on the 5.4.x before the server was branched for the
unstable builds.
you must, of course, have a registered copy of musicmagic, with the API service
running.

So the MusicMatch support was pulled out of 5.4.1, and won't be
available in a released version until 6.0, right?

Or will this be put back into 5.4.1 before it's released?

Is it possible to make this support avialable as a plugin for 5.4(.1)?

Thanks,
- Marc

not as such, no. it was in the main trunk, before 5.4.1 was branched off, and
the new elements were added to make 6.0.

5.4.1 is strictly bug fixes for 5.4.0, so no new features are allowed. However,
there is a lot of work goiig into making 6.0 much more stable now. If you do
try that and have any continuing issues, please report them.

unfortunately not. the integration api doesn't really make it easy to be done
via a plugin. However, part of what is different about 6.0 is that the
integration modules have been made a lot more standalone, so that future
integration will be less a matter of altering the entire server, and more about
placing a module in the right place. Again, this level of change is considered
too much for 5.4.1.

Thanks for the info. Are there rought estimates for the timeframe of
the two releases? I know you can't commit to dates at this point, I'm
just looking for something along the lines of "5.4.1 in Q1'05, 6.0 in Q3
or Q4".
