I watched a revealing video by a music producer Rick Beato (How the Computer Ruined Rock Music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFaRIW-wZlw) ) where he shows how since 2000 music has not only undergone compression (Loudness Wars) but also "quantization" where by through software musicians instruments are made to match the beat of the music exactly, like a machine. Beato says this has destroyed most modern music except some indie music.

Thanks. You just gave me the perfect explanation for why I (almost always) prefer live recordings for contemporary music :-)
Maybe with the exception for classical ... but then that genre is not yet a victim of quantization?

I would like to think Classical music has escaped this treatment but I don't know. It is as though the soul of music is being destroyed
