My question is: Instead of using the Squeeze box
physical device, if I use softsqueeze application, is
it still possible to play music from my computer on to
my stereo.

that all depends on whether you have the right cable and right length to go from
your PC sound card to yoru stereo. Softsqueeze audio output uses the PC Sound
Card for playback.
