nothign special:
SB1) $12 6-outlet bar from Home Depot
SB2) old 3-outlet wallbox protector from APC
SB3) generic 6-outlet wallbox from the Depot
Slimp3) PC surge protector with 8 outlets (2 wide ones for wallwarts). I can't
remember teh brand, but it did claim to warrantee $10k CDN in damages. It also
running my main workstation.

I have an older APC 650VA battery backup on my server. I can hear it beep once
every couple nights due to brownouts/surge (or its just a crappy UPS). I've
only had one brownout bad enough to cause the tv to shut off and stay off.
squeezebox didn't seem to even blink.

of course, I'm also living in an area that doesn't show a lot of electrical
storm activity, and the grid is so-so.

I don't know about your model, but my APC UPS initiates an automatic self-test
once per week where it switches the inverter on and runs on battery power.

This is to verify the batteries are good (I assume it keeps the systems on AC
during this in case they're not). This test is intended to alert you to replace
the batteries.

I like this approach better than the way my old TripLite units informed me, by
just shutting down!

I have also noticed that slight hiccups in line power will trigger a
switch-over. This is sometimes adjustable at the UPS if it is too sensitive.
