How do I enter a samba share for the path for my music directory?

My problem is that the slimserver box (on linux) can access the music
locally through /home/john/music/

However my my windows machine downloads playlists from the slimserver
web interface (I plan to put these into web buringing softare in case I
wnat to burn compilation cds) the path is /home/john/music/track.mp3

Obviously the windows machine doesnt have a clue where this is.

I have tried entering the following in the server settings with no avail
smb://mandrake/musicread/
//mandrake/musicread/

If I log in as user slimserver I can browse to the above directories
using the file browser. Does it make a difference that this is a read
only share?

many thanks
John

Anyone any idea of how to make a samaba share the path to my music
directory without first mounting it?

Cheers

Try:

\\servername\sharename\path\to\music\folder

No success
Using Mandrake 10.0 trying to link to a samba share located on the same box.

(doing this so that playlist files created by slimserver are useable by
all comptuers on the network)

If I automount it this will make it point it to /mnt/share

When my windows computers will look at the resultant playlist files they
will not have a clue where the music files are located!

I'm fairly sure you cannot get this to work. You need to mount that
share on your computer first. I'm not sure why you want to avoid that,
but it should work and should not cause any problems.

If you just want other clients to see the playlists, I would think the
slimserver on that box could point to the local path while others could
use the share and see all the files, so I would think you don't even
need to mount it on the box with the slimserver.
