View Full Version : Version 6 questions

I would love to start testing v6 more. I don't mind reinstalling slimserver
every day, it's not that hard. It's also not hard to revert to version
5.4.1 if things aren't cool.

But, my questions are:

1. Is there a day-to-day Readme that says exactly what's supposed to have
been changed in each daily build of v6? It would be nice see a "broken"
feature one day, then see in the Readme that the problem was supposedly
fixed -- that we, we all know exactly what to go pound on, to see if it's
really fixed now.

2. Are there any signposts or markers for more stable or better working
builds of v6? In other words, it might be nice if the dev team planted
their flag in the ground occasionally and said "OK, THIS build, while not
perfect or complete, generally WORKS." Whereas I can see that some of the
nightlies might be completely broken -- I downloaded one that wouldn't even
launch the slim.exe service.

3. Is there an official V6 Beta Testers group that one needs to join?
(Maybe should be another discussion group/forum?)

4. Does SlimCo want feedback from beta testers? If so, how -- through
Bugzilla? Or are they well aware enough as to V6's shortcomings?

join the checkins mailing list for the cvs checkin comments.

that's hard to do. some nightlies might see more use than others, and might
appear stable becuase of the silence when, in fact, it hasn't been beaten on
enough yet. A goo dmarker if you really want to be cautious is to read the
checking mailing list, and maybe when you see a very large checkin that isn't
just 'updating version number' then be prepared for the next day to have an
issue or two. Smaller patches might still have an unpredicted problem, but it
is less likely.

Developers list.

absolutely. asking through the developers list would be a nice first step, as
bugzilla could get a little cluttered if there was a bug report for every
little warning or tweak for the wish list.
