This is presumptuous of me, because I'm a newbie here; but I'd be fascinated
to read, and hence was considering running, a survey of slim users.
Since it would only be advertised on this list, it would be necessarily
somewhat biased to the geeky/committed - but still I think very interesting.
a) Is this a terrible idea, or redundant because there's something I've not
found, or would people for some reason not wish to participate, or for any
other reason should I drop it this idea?
b) If not (a), my 'plan' was just to set up a simple web page that would
collect information, aggregate and display it. Unless there's a better
idea?
c) Below are all the questions I was thinking of asking. Apart from issues
of grammer and voice, are there other, or different, questions? Or is this
way too much anyway?
My intention was not to ask for any identifying information (but ask people
to only complete the form once). Obviously there are some questions below
that are unlikely to aggregate much - eg rather than try to create a true
taxonomy of hardware devices, my idea is to get the headline
Mac/Windows/Linux choice that will actually aggregate, and then just to get
a list, which might occasionally have a 'quantity' > 1, of each device.
Even in this form, I think it would be interesting, especially for people
like myself who are just getting into the water, to see what range of
devices the software can run adequately on, and also to find out about
options they might not have known about (eg someone mentioned a Buffalo
Linkstation on this list recently - has anyone actually run SlimServer on
that?).
