Hi Daniel,

I tried moving mplayer to /sw/bin without success. Is your mplayer in
that location because it was installed through fink?

You mentioned something about possibly needing to reference cook.bundle
in one of the files? Is that needed?

I may try doing a clean install of Panther and updating to 10.3.7 (as
it is now) and then install SlimServer and attempt to install AlienBBC.
It will probably have to wait till next weekend though.

If anyone has any ideas in the meantime though let me know.

Andy.

No, I put it there because that was what the original instructions
suggested, it was a nice easy place, and also because lame and
madplay were there, so I reckoned it couldn't do any harm and might
do some good. I've no idea if madplay is actually needed. It was
mentioned in the original instructions for OS X on the AlienBBC page,
so again installing it couldn't harm and might help.

I doubt it. I don't recall doing anything of the sort, and I can't
see where that should be needed to make mplayer work. I was just
trying to remember if there was anything that I hadn't documented and
was needed, and was rather clutching at straws.

You could try following the original instructions on the Web page
regarding what to do with the cook codec, but I found I didn't need
to do that.

By the way, whether you use the terminal is up to you. I didn't, as
everything can be done without it. You just have to control-click on
the preference pane, Show Package Contents, and create folders, copy
files, etc, using the GUI.

All I can really say at the moment is that plainly mplayer isn't
working properly for you - all the actual AlienBBC stuff is a
different matter, once mplayer is working all the rest should follow
without difficulty.

I have now noticed that my version of cook.bundle, which definitely
works, is significantly different in size from the version currently
available from the helix site. I've sent Andy a copy of my version in
case this is the issue.
