To my mind if your UE smart radio is running squeezebox firmware, then it is a squeezebox radio?

If you have a mysqueezebox.com account, connect your radio, and follow the instructions?

Did you loose it with the switch, or after the switch? I'd be surprised
if there was anything working on UESR that wasn't on MySB, other than
iHeartRadio.

Were you using a local LMS or MySqueezebox.com to listen to the podcast?

Are you a non-UK listener?

Non of the BBC Podcasts seem to work using MySqueezebox.com, and I'm in the UK.:(

This problem was referenced in another thread, just the other day.

ronnie

I have just tried two NPR podcasts and they don't play either.

Another edit:

Well my radio got all crossed up and stopped working. I did a factory reset and reconnected to mysqueezebox.com

The NPR links worked this time but the BBC told me I was "....403 forbidden"

Give specific URls so they can be tested. If problem is like BBC then it is a http URL redirecting to a https URL.

I know non-uk BBC podcast have a problem - relating to use of acast.com for advertising but I think the issue is generic where a http URL redirects to a https one -

It is possible but if the purpose is to listen to BBC podcast then it is unlikely to work due to a change in the way BBC have used to add ads to non-UK listeners (or UK listeners using mysqueezebox.com).

BBC podcast now use https - the SB players cannot play https streams unless they have a local LMS. I think this is also true for UE smart player.

You might be better off running LMS on a raspberry Pi.

You might be better off running LMS on a raspberry Pi.

At the moment there is a bug with LMS playing BBC podcast by non UK listeners - again this is due to https but a different reason - this time a LMS problem not a player one.

However most oif the podcast are available to play using the BBCiPlayerExtra plugin (incl over 400 "In our time" programs).

Yes, you should be able to do so. Please describe what exactly you've
tried and how it fails.

Or feel free to PM me the device's MAC address and I can probably move
you over.

No need for the instructions in that thread! You should be able to
activate the migration from mysqueezebox.com! If you go there while your
Radio is connected you should get instructions automatically.

I'm not where I have my Radios and they are not connected to mysqueezebox.com, but I can log in and go through the initial process screens.

Here are some shots.

Log in to mysqueezebox dot com and scroll to bottom of the page

25192

Click on "Learn more"

25193

Scroll to bottom of page and click on "Continue"

On the next page I can select a Radio and get this screen

25194

because the player is not connected the "Update to UE Smart Radio" is greyed out (I'm guessing at the last bit:p)

Ronnie

Sorry about the large size of the screen shots:o

Unfortunately he often was unclear to what he meant, and did not seem to
follow advice... but he's fine now, as I set those flags on the server
side. That said: his BBC issue is, little surprised there, not fixed.

Strangely, only one podcast from bbc is working on my ue smart (documentaries), the rest are not running at all. I have a PURE ONE RADIO INTERNET and all BBC'S podcast are working all right, but in my SANGEAN INTERNET RADIO not bbc's podcast available, screen saying: cannot open selected media.

There are 3 parts to this problem.

1. The changeover to using https instead of http. Not all internet radios support https. No SB or UE player supports https natively - so any SB player connecting to mysqueezbox.com or the UE equivalent will not be able to play any music source (incl. podcast) which have https URLs. This is also true for other brands of internet radio so I suspect your SANGEAN does not support https but your PURE does.

2. BBC changed in March'18 to include ads when non-uk listeners plays a podcast. These ads are handled by the acast.com network which uses https URLs. However this change has not taken effect in total. It looks like more recent podcasts are still handled "locally" and so can have a http URL. The majority of podcasts have a BBC http URL which gets redirected to an acast.com https URL and so cannot be played by SB player.

3. The BBC podcast cannot be played by SB player connected to LMS because of a bug in LMS handling http URLs which are redirected to https URLs.

It was initially doucmented here https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109142-Podcast-App

Below is a http URL link which BBC supplies - it redirects to a https acast.com which fails in LMS because it redirects from http to https

To show this issues play the same URL in "Tune-in" with a http and https . The https will play on LMS but the http one will fail.

That thread discusses using mplayer etc., too. Could you please
summarize what you know and file on bugzilla or github? Thanks!

I in particular the re-direct to add stream. They wouldn't change
mid-stream, would they?

I just committed a change (https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/1120bab6954664dad8bcb39a1c2bafec6ae36dac) which might fix this. New builds should be out in a bit. Please give it a try.

Does NOT resolve the OP's issue, as it requires LMS.

OK- I was trying to find the problem but I'm not too familiar with that part of LMS and the redirect may be a red - herring but it looks like it - it may be a side effect of opening same URL twice and URL parameters may only once but that would not explain it is OK when using HTTPS as a starting poiint . The other error that appears is an "unkown bitrate" one.

I in particular the re-direct to add stream. They wouldn't change
mid-stream, would they?

Sure looks like it- heavily edited log. Strangely there are no Ads (yet!).

edit:
IIRC The problem was also noticed on NPR podcast which also use acast.com

bpa - did you try the latest build? It should have a fix for the http -> https redirect.

Thanks. It has fixed the podcast for the BBC test cases. I'll post about the fix on the other thread and see if it NPR problems is resolved as well.

If there are unwanted sideeffects, a possible alternative local LMS approach to the fix would be to change podcast app to use secure https URLs when parsing RSS XML although it is not clear how widespread are the "ppg:enclosureLegacy" and "ppg:enclosureSecure" tags used.

<enclosure url="http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/5/redir/version/2.0/mediaset/audio-nondrm-download/proto/http/vpid/p02qjhd5.mp3" length="13392000" type="audio/mpeg"/>
<ppg:enclosureLegacy url="http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/5/redir/version/2.0/mediaset/audio-nondrm-download/proto/http/vpid/p02qjhd5.mp3" length="13392000" type="audio/mpeg"/>
<ppg:enclosureSecure url="https://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/5/redir/version/2.0/mediaset/audio-nondrm-download/proto/https/vpid/p02qjhd5.mp3" length="13392000" type="audio/mpeg"/>

I tried to find some related documentation... and Google would always
just send me back to this thread... Seems to be the only place in the
wide, wide web where this is being discussed.

I'm guessing BBC consider the ppg stuff as standard and so implemented them but in fact they are not widely used at all.
