You can use MusicMagic under Linux as well. You just need Java and X. Most times
I run it via ssh with X forwarding and cygwin. My linux box is a server, so
I'm never sitting at the console.

In my experience, the response of the player UI is much snappier when the server
is running under Linux, or even OSX. There is no reason for Perl to run slower
under Windows, but I think there is just always more going on in a windows
system.
