View Full Version : virtual soundcard?

Hello everybody,

I searched the list and the documentation for this, but could not find
anything, although I wonder why.

Is it somehow possible to use the squeezebox to create a "virtual
soundcard" on the PC running the slimserver? I.e. to make it stream the
audio output of e.g. a game or maybe even an video player to the
box. Reencoding of some audio formats to pcm done by the server seems to
be similar, but it would need to be close to "realtime".

Is this possible? If not, is it simply not implemented or would the
latency be too bad in any case? I am using FreeBSD 5.3 Unix and the Perl
script Server.

Thank you
Felix Schlesinger

frequently requested, but hasn't been done yet.

If you want to take a swing at it, look over AlienBBC first and search
the archives for the patches a guy named Triode did to mplayer. These
seem like good ways to start, maybe even a hack to the AlienBBC
transcoder_proxy.pl would do it.

Sadly, I haven't had time to do more than think "wouldn't it be nice".
