View Full Version : Browsing artists entering multiple characters on SB Classic?

A longtime user, feeling silly only now asking if/how this can be done:

Using a Squeezebox Classic, browsing by Album Artist:
If I press a character key on the remote, the display will show the first artist starting with that letter.
So if I press 'S', that could result in Sade.
But if I want to see Steely Dan, I would have to scroll (a lot).

If I type 'S' and 'T' shortly after each-other, it will not show artists starting with 'St', but artists starting with 'T'.
It would be much more natural if you could enter multiple characters here.
(allowing only one character is even close to useless in my opinion)

Hopefully there is a setting for this that I missed?

Have you tried Stuart Hickinbottoms Lazy Music Search plugin?

To find the artist "Eagles", press the search button on the remote > Artists > enter "3245" and up pops Eagles. The Byrds would be "2973", ABBA "2222", etc.. The more letters (number buttons) you press the better the search results.
See plugin's settings before using.

Time between chars is set by WebUI Setting/Interface/Text entry Timing but minimum is 1 sec.

Wow, that's absolutely brilliant.
Thank you kidstypike!
And of course Stuart Hickinbottoms!

The only thing that it doesn't seem to be able to do, is search through Album Artist exclusively?
(I often want to play a full album by an artist that I have in mind, and searching by Artist also includes all non-album tracks.)

To play Joni Mitchell's album "Blue" > Search (button) > Albums > "2583" > press the play button?

My memory for album titles is not as good as it used to be (in the years that I owned less than 100 records ;-)
'Blue' by JM I would remember, but especially for newer artists, and for my ever increasing library it's quite hard to remember all album titles.
