I am a bit confused about this. I have the Digital Volume Control in
Home/Player Settings/Audio set to "Digital Output Quality is Fixed (Best
Analogue Quality)", as this is supposed to give me the purest digital output
signal (bypasses extraneous volume circuitry?). As a result of this setting
(I think) volume settings just do not appear in my Squeezebox Player window
for the skin I use (Fishbone). However, I see that the volume settings do
not disappear in the default skin when "Digital Output Quality is Fixed
(Best Analogue Quality)" is selected. However, there is no "0" setting, the
lowest is "1".

My question is:

1) Where is the "0" volume setting?

it depends on the skin. if you are using "digital output is fixed" then the
volume control from a skin has no effect.

I wasn't aware of this setting. Where is it found? I'm looking at the
Fishbone skin.

Player settings->audio->Digital Volume Control

it's down near the bottom.

Use "Digital Output Quality is Fixed" on the web interface and then set the volume to 0 (muted) using the remote control.
This does not alter the volume of the digital output, but reduces the analog output to zero.

I'm confused. I take "digital output is fixed" to mean that the signal
only on the digital out is untouched by anything in the squeezebox. But
then I'd expect the analog output volume to still be controllable from the
Squeezebox or the web interface. But when "digital output is fixed" is
selected the volume controls (at least in Fishbone) go away. Is it
assumed that when this setting is turned on that the user is using only
the digital out? Couldn't the Squeezebox be hooked up using both the
analog and digital outs simultaneously?

yes, it can. in fact the audio control on the remote will still control the
analogue output. This loss of the volume control in the Fishbone skin is a
feature of that skin in response to user request.
