It seems like this gets asked a lot. I would search
the archives.

Thanks for the info Todd, I did that and it looks squeezebox is
definitively the good choice, and Soundbridge looks to be an ersatz
that is not worth the value !
Just wanted to get an explanation about something: it looks from what I
see in a previous post that squeezebox or slimserver could be
controlled from Itunes, is it right or did I misunderstand ?

Thanks for all

here's a handy page: http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_plugins.html

I thought there've been some Applescript solutions posted for doing this
from a Mac. Yeah, here it is:

Vincèn, I'm very happy with SlimP3 and Squeezebox.

The relation to iTunes is a little different from what you might be
thinking... SlimServer gets the music and playlists from iTunes. Then,
you control music play either from the remote (just like a TV or HiFi
remote) or from a web browser pointed to a special address

http://your.server:9000

This opens lots of possibilities. In particular, you can control your
music from a wireless laptop or a PDA/WinCE device which has WiFi.
The remote works quite well too.

I manage my music library and playlists on iTunes.

Note that SlimServer/Squeezebox cannot play music you've purchased
from the iTunes music store... Apple's copy protections prevent that.
But, MP3 and now FLAC work fine.

Hope this helps.

Unless you remove the copy protection that is. (hint, google for hymn).
