View Full Version : I've got gaps

This is starting to send me a bit loopy...

I tried upgrading to 5.4.1 but the gaps still occur. So I tried installing
the latest nightly (24.12.04) and the gap problem appeared to be fixed. Then
I realised I had left the Bitrate Limiting to 320kbps. On closer listening
there was a tiny gap, but only just detectable.

So I switched of the bitrate limiting, flicked to the next track, checked
flac.exe wasn't running, and gaps were back! I switched back to 320kbps and
the gaps were almost gone again.

I've also noticed that when bitrate limiting is turned off I get 100% cpu
spikes when the gaps occur. So it looks like this might be problem with a
lack of CPU power. What I don't understand is that this was fine under
5.3.1. Has something changed in the way the server handles gapless playback?

Here's a screen shot of a mix album playing:

My CPU is only a Via C3 700MHz. Can someone else with a low power server try
some gapless tests?

I run slimserver 5.4 on an 800 MHz C3 running NetBSD. I get very close to
gapless (to my ears) playback using separate FLAC files (no cuesheet).
