Since 2 days my LMS stops playing music after 20-30 seconds. This is on a Windows 10 (Version 1607, Build 14393.321) running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1477086729. The Windows event log reports the following errors, but I could not find a suspect error in the LMS server.log:

"The description for Event ID 0 from source Application cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Perl interpreter failed

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table"

and

"Faulting application name: spotifyd.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5443d5f7

Are more people seeing this behaviour?

Dennis.

Does it only happen with Spotify tracks? I've seen issues with them,
too. But then I learned that they were under DDOS fire. Somebody
attachedk their DNS service (and others like Twitter, Netflix etc.). So
this might have been a temporary thing due to those attacks.

Yes, seems Spotify had major issues because of the DDOS attack (and I hope no squeezeboxes were part of the embedded device network that was used to launch it).

No, it happens on local tracks, I wasn't using Spotify. However it looks like the Spotify daemon crashes LMS completely. After removing ickStream, Spotify, Spotify Protocol Handler & Sugarcube it looks like LMS is running without problems...

Dennis.

OK, better, but this morning LMS crashed again, but now with the following error a few minutes after a scheduled rescan ended:

and the same error in the windows log:

You have dodgy picture embedded or included with some of latent files ?

verypsb

No, I don't think so, but you never can be sure...
Also it still crashes every song when Sugarcube has been installed. It's more stable when Sugarcube has been removed.

Best regards,
Dennis.

I restored a virtual machine image of Thursday 20-10-2016, before updating Logitech Media Server. It's now running Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1475786002 @ Thu Oct 6 20:42:25 CUT 2016. Everything is running smooth again, no more errors in the windows event log, no more Spotify errors. I'm still seeing this error in the server.log. It doesn't crash LMS, however.

[16-10-23 13:23:59.4006] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1244) Warning: [13:23:59.3989] Image::Scale libjpeg error: Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment (C:\Users\LocalUser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window s\Notifications\wpnidm\b83a12db.jpg)

Why is LMS even bothering with that file location?

Best regards,
Dennis.

Looks as if you have scanning for other media folders than music enabled. Check LMS WebUI->Settings->Basic Settings.

And in the folders you want to scan for music ,turn of picture and movie scanning , those add ons where nerver that stable together with the upnp plugin ( that you probably also wants to disable ) they where meant to serve the revue google tv box that Logitech had for a very short time .

And notice that LMS follows shortcuts , so it can scan in surprising locations ?

There was indeed a location I don't remember adding or being present before:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Pictures

Yes that's what I normally do, too....

After a complete restore, everything is working again, I'm a bit hesitant to comply to the LMS message to update to the latest version...

Yup, it's back again... After updating Logitech Media Server... Spotify stops playing after 1 song.. LMS crashes...

Perl interpreter failed

Let's rebuild the VM again...

Is this a Windows VM ? Why not try a Linux VM. Usually much more stable.

verypsb
2016-11-18, 04:32
Because I'm not comfortable with Linux, Windows VMs haven't given me problems before, it's not only LMS that's running, among other reasons...

The restored VM before the LMS update will probably work as expected again...

And yes, the recovered VM from 2 days ago, before the LMS update, is working as expected again...

What is breaking it every time?

And it's back again. Play 1 song on Spotify, LMS crashes again with:

Just removed and reinstalled LMS, now I get an "Invalid mysqueezebox.com username or password."
However I'm able to connect to mysqueezebox.com with the same username and password.

Look at the networking setup of the VM. It needs to be a bridged connection i.e. a valid IP on your normal network. If it is a virtual NAT network there can be issues like this.

I suspect you are rigth is it not so that the helper app dont like to be NAT'ed itmust reside on the same network as the players ?
