View Full Version : Don't Stop The Music

Excellent work by Michael as always as he has restored the Don't Stop The Music functionality that went west with Smart Mix and The Echonest.
So here I am listening to a FLAC rip of Peter Gabriel's Scratch My Back. If you haven't ever heard it I would say it is a serious work. It's reworked cover versions of well known stuff but stripped very bare. Serious stuff.
Anyway the aforesaid DSTM has added some stuff from Spotify onto the playlist as you would expect.
I think Michael has been mischievous. Four tracks in to the Spotify stuff is Chris de Burgh's Lady In Red. WTF?

No, really, just NO. I've been wondering whether this was TEN's answer
to Rick-Rolling. Chris de Burgh always shows up in my mixes. And trust:
I do not want him there. I went as far as blacklisting him in my old
SmartMix plugin.

And FWIW: I did indeed add a Rick-Rolling feature to SmartMix for April
1st. But nobody seems to have noticed... Every mix would have ended in
"Never gonna give you up" that day (if somehow possible). Eg. like this:

Now you have told us we will be on the lookout on 1st April 2017.

Rick, btw, is in the running for British PM on account of the fact that he will never give us up or let us down etc. I like that track in moderation. Perhaps it's my age.

I might have overlooked it - but where is the DSTM no located? Is it a
separate plugin? I assume it requires a spotify subscription?

Cheers,

Rainer

It's a built-in plugin in recent 7.9 versions.
Appears under Home > Extras.
No Spotify subscription needed.

Ok - thanks. Found it.

At the moment I see only my Favourites, but I have neither Spotify nor
Deezer installed.

I just installed Random Mix and now I have also Random (limited to
current theme) and other random.

But to use spotify or deezer, I would need an subscription - correct? I
have Qobuz - but unfortunately they do not provide any mix based on
current song feature.

Does DSTM support MusicIP?

I select Deezer Smart Radio, play a particular track from an artist (Izzy Bizu) ... but the DSTM persistently resets to Smart Mix .... ??? Seems to work for other artists.

If I select Smart Radio in Deezer app and enter the artist, then Smart Radio plays a selection.

What Smart Mix? It's dead. Random Mix? That would be the fall back if
the chosen options failed.

Starting with Peter Gabriel's Scratch My Back.
Set the volume to 0 and let do dstm its work.

tbh i also had that "The Lady In Red" taken from the Billboard Top 100 of 1987 by Chris DeBurgh.
Its doesnt shown up in all the 199 Songs played from dstm right now.

From which Album is your Version?
Is there a match between?
Or should i wait to Song 300 to keep smiling???

edit
Ahh get it all my Billboard Albums are tagged with Genre Top40 ...

Sorry - it's Song Mix which defaults. But my original observation still stands. What triggers Deezer Smart Radio? Artist, song title, genre ... ???

Deezer's Smart Radio is basically what others call an Artist Radio: you
pick an artist and let Deezer create some mix based on that artist. In
the DSTM case the plugin picks the artists from the current playlist and
tries to create a mix based on one of them.

You can enable debugging for plugin.deezer to get more information in
the server.log file.

Hmmm - it's working today after I reinstalled my OS again ...

Michael,

I think I may have found a bug in DSTM. It works fine until I listen to a radio station, and then it won't work again unless I restart LMS. It seems that a variable may get set when a radio station is found last in the queue and then it is never reset after switching back to local files or a streaming service.

I added AC/DC - Back In Black to the playlist and DSTM - LastMix added 5 songs. I skipped to the next song (Danzig - Mother) and then switched to a radio stream. After a couple minutes, I cleared the playlist and then added 1 track, Aerosmith - Sweet Emotion. It played to the end and DSTM did not attempt to add anymore. All of the tracks I was using were local files.

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1470912157 @ Thu Aug 11 11:20:50 UTC 2016
All plugins are current.

Thanks,

following your instructions (using different songs, though :-)).

@ Michael: DSTM didn't work I guess because I used internet radio stations too. Thought synchronization was the culprit but with the last update it is solved.

@Michael,
although smartmix was working efficiently, the DSTM failed to do so.It is there ,under extras but no matter what I choose (spotifyrec, lastmix musicip) nothing happens.I make use of official spotify plugin with spotify protocol handler.LMS(Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 0.148.20161023git1477086729 @ Thu Oct 27 16:53:11 BST 2016) is on a vortexbox (amd phenom 64,4GB) updated to last vortexbox version.I have made several tricks, removing plugins, restarting LMS, debug to logging selections to no avail.
Any ideas?
Happy new year to everybody

What are you playing when DSTM should kick in? There was an issue with
certain resources which could lead to DSTM failure. You'd recognize this
in the log where it would say something along the lines of "no mix
created as last track is a radio station" or similar. I only fixed that
issue in December. Your build is older. You might want to update.

Hi Michael,
I play flac or mp3 files from my vortexbox, or any musicip mix.I had a look at the Logitech Media Server Log File, while playing a song, but I could'nt trace anything related to DSTM.I copy/paste something from the log while the song is near 2/3 of its duration.Have a look "...[17-01-03 00:58:39.8384] Slim::Networking::Slimproto::_stat_handler (836)

Yeah... not exactly what I'd need :-). Set logging level for

Hi Michael,
I did set logging level as required. Then I played a spotify song and after a local file around 3 minutes. That is what was written
in the log text during this time.I did'nt notice any referral to DSTM. Strange thing for me is the referral to many many local music pieces addresses .
I really feel awkward to ask you to have a look at this! So I deleted most of this pattern.

It looks like you have SugarCube installed and set to use TrackStat but TrackStat isn't installed?

Try; Check Advanced Tab -> Spicefly SugarCube -> and untick Enable TrackStat

or Install the TrackStat plugin

Hi Michael. You were right!!!I had'nt untick that.Trying to make DSTM to work I had uninstalled several plugins (random mix, auto rescan ,track stat etc).
Guess what. DSTM appears to work!
When I start a track shortly after a new one appears from my hard disk (not spotify as I had thought). I have tried spotify recommendations, musicip and last mix.
Last mix picked up the most relevant choice.
Thank you, very much,indeed.
That is what appears at log, i do not know if it is useful to know:

I guess you disabled the Fulltext Search plugin and didn't run a rescan.
That could cause those missing strings warnings.

Michael thank you,

DSTM is a really useful plugin , that is why a made a mess of uninstalling several other plugins
hoping that I would find the conflict. As a last service to this DSTM failure of mine, could you please
recommend or deter of using any of the LMS plugins to avoid conflicts with DSTM?

I'm not aware of any plugin which would be known to conflict with DSTM.
Even in your case it wasn't just SugarCube, but the way it was
configured and set up.

Hi Michael,

I am afraid I have misguided you ....a little. The music goes on due to sugarcube that picks song after song.
DSTM should provide a list of songs (a playlist of 5 or more like smartmix in the past but this is not the case. The belief that last mix
was working is due to random selection of next song in sugarcube-musicip plugin everytime I was trying the same song.
Quite disappointing...but restoration of sugarcube was a welcome side effect.if you still have the patience please check the log file:

My only other option is to wait when the repositories of vortexbox have a recent LMS version or try a manual installation

I have a Vortexbox 2.4 with LMS 7.9.xx and DSTM works perfectly. If you look on VB.org there are instructions on how to upgrade to the latest LMS. Easy

What's wrong then? Seriously: I don't understand what you're expecting,
what you're experiencing, and what was wrong about that.

No. DSTM doesn't provide songs. It only provides the infrastructure to
continue playback of some sort once the playlist comes to an end. But
it's other plugins which provide the tracks. This can be RandomPlay, or
SugarCube, or LastMix, or...

Hi Michael,
I am sure it is my fault that I did 'nt make myself clear,Previously , after a song or a playlist the music was stopping.
Thanks to your remarks ,regarding sugarcube ,now the music goes on.Then I realized that uninstalling DSTM ,the music
goes on,again, due to sugarcube.
I 've read in the forum that DSTM kicks in during a song and provides a list of songs that may come from the local HD or spotify .
The mix itself has to do with the choice of other plugins , random mix or spotify recommendations or last mix.
That is what I expected to happen and never did.So , I was not sure if DSTM was working or how it is working.
Anyway, thank you for your effort.Sorry for been tiresome.

Is it on 7.8?

It's a built-in plugin in recent 7.9 versions.
Appears under Home > Extras.
No Spotify subscription needed.

I'm glad you quote the answer to your question. So we don't have to do
it any more.

I saw that it is a built-in plugin on 7.9. I was asking if it's possible to access it in 7.8 somehow. I guess I should have been more specific with my question. For some reason I have been having problems trying to download 7.9 w/vortexbox.
