Ok...so I've seen this program talked about a bit around here, so I took the plunge, and downloaded it, along with the latest 5.4.x nightly.

Ummmm.....how do I configure it, and where do I set it up from within slimserver??? (Do I need a special plug in for this?!)

You have to activate the remote API from within music magic. This requires
registration, then you need to go into Customize Options from teh musicmagic
application, Then look for Services, and enable the API by checking the box and
then click start. From then on, when you start MusicMagic the API will start
too. At least for the time being, you need to have music magic running.
predixis is considering a headless version of the API, but its not there yet.
by default, slimserver will look for musicmagic on port 10002, but you cna
change it later from teh slimserver server settings for musicmagic, then stop
the API in musicmagic, change the port to match and restart the service.

....and I should be using the latest nightly 5.4.X build, correct? I have
done all of this, and am not seeing ANY interaction between the two. Would
I see MusicMagic options right off the main "server settings" page in the
slimserver web interface?

(help! this is annoying the hell out of me)

Danny,
I found that I had to stop and start the API from within the Service tab
of MM once - or sometimes even twice - in order to get Slimserver to
recognise its existence. When it does you will see a new item in the
top level Server Settings menu allowing you to select "Use" or "Do No
Use" MM as well as a lower level menu item where you can configure a few
things like number of songs in a mix, etc.

Ok thanks guys....I'm not seeing that new item at the top, so something
isn't right....I'll keep farting around 'til I get it. (although I have
tried everything mentioned quite a few times...grr!)

Thanks!

(I just wasn't sure what to look for)

Something is really screwed here. I've downloaded the latest nightly, and
tried to run it with --d_musicmagic, but there is no such option....I
grepped the contents of the downloaded zip file for the word "magic", and
found NO instances.

Am I on crack?!

I downloaded the file
http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest/5.4.1/SlimServer_5_4_x_v2004-12-18.ZIP

Do I need to grab it directly from CVS perhaps?! (I guess I can always try
that...once again...grr!)

I thought the nightly build came from the CVS tree, but I guess that's not
the case! The CVS tree has the musicmagic stuff in it, and the nightly
build does not.

Over at MusicMagic's website, it states to download the latest nightly
build, and it directs them to the nightly build download page, which does
not contain what someone might be looking for. Someone may want to get them
to correct the instructions/wording on that page. (I mentioned it in their
forums just now, so hopefully, it'll be fixed)

I guess I'll have to wait for some sort of semi-stable release to try this
out, 'cause version 6.0 in CVS is a mess. (running on windows anyways)

I'm the one on crack. the 5.4.x builds and the 5.4.x branch of cvs do NOT
contain musicmagic because its considered too new to be included with 5.4.1.
You'll need the main cvs, or the 6.0 nightly builds. These have gotten to a
usable point now so its not quite as bad an idea to download that as it was
last week.

sorry I left you on a red herring.

No problem...all of the instructions I found mentioned the 5.4.x build, so
no biggie.

I did however download the 6.0 CVS tree, but had no luck even getting it
started...perhaps I'll try again in a few days when I have more time.

Thanks for your help!

Try this. I think it should be a pre-unstable, which would still include the
initial MMM integration.

If I havent' gone far enough back, and you still have troubles, try an slightly
earlier one :)

The URL you gave doesn't work. If you have a working one, I'd appreciate a
link to it...if not...I'll just wait until the problems seem to dies down
with v6.0.

you can try it from here:
http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/

for some odd reason, you can navigate down to it, but not link directly to it.
6.0 does seem much calmer for me now.
