Hi all

I couldn't find anything in the FAQ about support for RVA2 relative volume
adjust ID3 tags... Does the SB support this?

I'd like to know before I let "normalize" loose on my collection ;-)

TIA

Simon

I've been searching the list for answers, it appears that it doesn't :-(
Shall I file a bugreport/feature request or is there some fundamental reason
not to be able to do this on a SB?

if you consider the tag not being supported as fundamental, then yes. the tag
is currently not suported. if you use FLAC, you can take advantage of the
replaygain festures, but that is currently the only option that I'm aware of.

I'm currently not using FLAC for anything (I'm not an audiofile ;-)

With fundamental I mean that the SB hardware cannot support it. But from
your comment I interpret that it's just that the tag is currently
unsupported, right? So the firmware could be updated and add support for
this? I think it would be a useful feature...

I mean that both the tag and its function are not writen in to the audio
handling. The server doesn't interpret the RVA2 tag, nor does it have anything
internal to readjust the volume. Mp3's are sent directly to a hardware
decoder. It coudl be possible to reset the volume based on those tags, and
that feature has been requested for various different "volume adjustment"
mechanisms. You can always file this as an enhancement request on

Actually, flac replaygain is done via command line switches for the flac
executable. Presumably, if a similar option exists for mp3 files then
you could do a similar thing.

No, for now I recommend using mp3gain to adjust the volume of your
mp3s directly. Bug ID #80 is an enhancement request to support
normalization tags. If you'd like to show your support please vote
for it.
