I got an email from the folks behind JAZZRADIO announcing a new classical service called CLASSICALRADIO.COM. If it is as good as the jazz service it will be worthwhile, and as far as I can tell so far a prime subscription to the jazz site also gets you the classical site.

On their website (http://www.classicalradio.com) they announce compatibility with Squeezebox, but I don't see an app on mysqueezebox.com.

Does anyone know about this?

Where does it mention Squeezebox support ? I can't see it.

It's on the APP page under "Supported hardware players." There is a link to download an app, but the link just takes you to the squeezebox app gallery. The JazzRadio app is there, but nothing for ClassicalRadio.

I got a prompt response from their support folks. App development is "a top priority" and should be done soon. Stay tuned.

I had the same query, so thanks for chasing down the answer. By the way, the same outfit also does "rockradio" for which there is an app on MSB.com. It looks like you can use the same account for all 3 services i.e. jazz/classical/rockradio. Nice!

For the "official app" way see cjfreitag's feedback above, in the meantime you could login in the classicalradio site -> go to hardware players -> copy each channel's address containing your hash key and paste the links one by one to your lms Favourites respectively.

OK - I might wait until after new year with this - maybe there is the
new app available.

Thanks,

Bravo! And until now, I didn't realize that my jazz subscription also got me into Radiotunes...I installed that as well.

Has anyone found working URLs for the various streams of classicalradio.com and rockradio.com?

I ask because I'd rather put them into favourites on my SB3 than use the app.

Can't you just add the stations you want from the app to your Favorites from the player or web UI?

That's an interesting idea Toby: how do you do that?

Not sure Michael Herber, employee at Logitech, can talk freely. Some how money (revenue) must have gotten Logitech's attention. At least three new apps have now appeared at MySqueezebox.com (ClassicalRadio.com, RockRadio.com, and RadioTunes.com). An affiliate, JazzRadio.com was already there. But now all four stations are available as a group with a Premium subscription, running at 320kbps.

Breathing life back into MySqueezebox.com is nothing short of resurrection from the dead. :D

Depends which player you are using. Any currently playing stream or a stream listed in the menus can be added to Favorites (or presets).

Thanks Toby, I'll give that a try.

I was listening for awhile, but that's over. You now must subscribe to stream from Squeezebox devices. No working free account. Same as Spotify.

Yeah, I love free stuff as much as anyone. I don't use any paid service myself. But I also understand these services need to generate revenue to keep the streams going.
So I'm ok with the limitations, ads, hickups, etc...

Another good free alternative is the ShoutCast service/app. You won't get station or artist art, often not even song/artist metadata. But ShoutCast has like 30,000+ stations and is quite reliable. I have my ShoutCast set to only the higher bitrate streams (mine is set to 192k) by using ShoutCasts Bitrate Limit setting.

Ex: ShoutCast > Genres > Classical > All Stations has hundreds of stations. If you set the Bitrate Limit to say 192k (like mine) you have probably a couple dozen stations.
You also have the option of selecting Sub-Genres like Baroque, Chamber, Romantic, Opera, Piano, etc...

Michael Herger,

FYI.... Just now noticing ShoutCast is not working correctly. ShoutCast > Genres > *pick any one*, result is "failed to parse".

Yet other ShoutCast streams seem to play (like ShoutCast > Most Popular), so service is not completely broken.

If this is the afterlife for my Squeezeboxes, it's sweet. Getting ClassicalRadio to recognize I'm a premium subscriber was a little fiddly, but working now and it sounds great. All year I've dragged my feet on replacing the Squeezebox in my family room with a Sonos Connect and the one in the bedroom with a Play1. Now I can wait a while longer - I miss having SiriusXM, but this goes a very long way toward making up for it. Nice.

Are you still seeing this? I can browse
Genres/Alternative/Britpop/Abacus Beatles just fine.

Just tried it again. Seems to be working fine now. Did it clear up on its own or did you do something?

No, I didn't touch anything during the Holidays. Self-healing issue.
It's that time of the year. A Xmas wonder :-)

Thanks anyway!

Yes Xmas wonders :) and the bitrate filter has acted up in the past .

( OT I love iPhone spelling bitrate is transformed to nitrate , a "nitrate filter" is that used in bomb making of some sort... Cue black vans outside my window )

Hello. Are all services down today??? I used all of these apps last night 1/8/13 5pm EST, and they worked. I have a paid subscription, so that's not the issue. Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: working fine now:confused:

RadioTunes app is not new. Is used to be called SKY.fm app. Simple label change.
