Earlier this year, the Logitech Squeezebox app stopped working, first on
my Sony Xperia Z phone, and sometime later it stopped working on my
Xperia Z tablet.

The app just displays "Free you music" and then nothing more happens.

I suspect that this was caused by system upgrades on the devices.

The phone is currently running system version 10.7.A.0.222
The tablet is currently also running system version 10.7.A.0.222

(this isn't the version that stopped the logitech app from working)

I have googled and found this thread:
https://forums.logitech.com/t5/Squeezebox-and-Smart-Radio/Squeezebox-Controller-App-doesn-t-work-after-upgrade-to-Android/td-p/1373141

I have tried the workaround mentioned at the end of the thread:
uninstall the upgrade to the Android system webview app

However, that didn't help, the app is still stuck in "Free your music"
at startup.

Has anyone else had any luck in getting the Logitech squeezebox app
working again after it stopped working after a system upgrade?

Thanks!

Undoing the Android update is not wise. It was updated to fix a security flaw (which you just removed). Update your Android's to the latest release then use one of several third party Android control apps for SqueezeBox.

I'm aware.

I just uninstalled it to see if it would work.

It is now back.

Yes, that seems to be the only way forward.

And that's unfortunate, because I really liked the Logitech app.

Any chance of Logitech open sourcing it? Or is it lost forever?

It's dead. Just use third party app.

I've got the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android v5.0.1 - the app loads but is unable to find the players on the network. Guess I shall have to delete and consider installing another controller app. I really only use it as an alternative remote control when I'm on the wrong side of the house...

I like Squeeze Cntrl, and have also used Orange Squeeze. I preferred both to the Logitech app, before the latter stopped working after Android updates. They're both happily resident on my Z3, and don't cost much.
