Richard,

This is great info. I now see that little "Web" button. Very nice, indeed.
So, as I understand it, all of this interaction with the server is going
across the one SSH port. If so, what purpose would I have for "Forward
Additional Ports" and how is it used? Just curious.

I have a dedicated webserver that is running http/ftp and copy of SlimServer
just for my "out of home" listening pleasure (via SoftSqueeze). Right now I
have all the convert.conf settings the same as my hardened LAN SlimServer
(uses the SlimDevices defaults), but I've been wondering how I would limit
the outgoing stream for the external SoftSqueeze clients. My entire
library is MP3 (AT) 256k (DOT) I'd like to keep the quality high but the traffic as
low as possible because I may have a few clients running and I am concerned
that bandwidth might become an issue if I am not careful. Any suggestions
here?

As for the defaults, I think I'll check Bugzilla and enter a "wish-list"
item there.

I know it's been said before, but this is one terrific little whiz-bang
gizmo you've created. Thanks!

Michael

That option forwards additional ports from the Slimserver machine to the
remote machine running SoftSqueeze. I use it for a lot of stuff. My
usual list is ports 22, 25, 143 and 3128 so that I can access SSH, SMTP,
IMAP and my squid web proxy all over the same tunnel built by
SoftSqueeze. That gives me access to my mail (send and receive), a
secure remote shell and lets me bypass the corporate
webnazi^H^H^H^Hproxy from work. As far as IT is concerned, I'm just
listening to tunes. ;)

Player Settings->Audio->Bitrate Limiting. I downrate to 64Kb/s. It's
listenable without consuming 25% of the T-1.
