Hello,
Im new to the list, figured Id say hello and mention
the reason I joined.

I Have SUSE 9.0 and have had a few difficultys installing the
slim server software. I did a google, looked over at the SUSE site and
cant get anywhere.

After installing the rpm with yast, then doing a netstat i see nothing for 9000
I tried slimserver.pl --deamon got only errors, I think SUSE does it different.
I tried to just dowload the tar and unpacked it, then slimserver.pl --start
no good.

If anyone has had a simmilar problem, or can direct me to a good FAQ
I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks
Glenn

Are you running a firewall, like ipchains or iptables? You may need to
open up port 9000 in there if you are.

The RPM is geared towards RedHat, SuSE cannot deal with the startup script
in the RPM. Attached is a SuSE startup script which works for me. Actions:

- Save the script as /etc/rc.d/slimserver
- Check the setting of SLIMSERVER_HOME (dunno where the RPM installs it).
- chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/slimserver
- ln -s /etc/rc.d/slimserver /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S99slimserver
- /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S99slimserver start

If this doesn't work, try the following from the slimserver directory (the
directory where "slimserver.pl" resides):

./slimserver.pl --daemon

(that's spelled "daemon", not "deamon") and post the errors on the list.
