View Full Version : AudioFeast plugin feedback

A beta version of a SlimServer plugin that integrates the AudioFeast
service was released at the same time as SlimServer 5.4.0. Information
about the plugin can be found at
http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_audiofeast.html. For now, the service and
the plugin are available only on Windows.

We'd like to get some feedback regarding the plugin. If you've had a
chance to download and install the plugin, please post feedback to the
discuss list or send mail to audiofeast (AT) slimdevices (DOT) com. If you haven't
yet tried the plugin, please consider doing so. :-)

Looks to me like AudioFeast is Not Quite Ready For Primetime.

I downloaded the AF software and installed it on my music server
(WinXP). I chose the free service and set it to downloading the
channels. Several minutes later, the download was stuck at 0%. I
rebooted the PC and AF eventually started downloading. While it was
doing this, attempting to play a channel from the AF screen produced an
ugly "Content Error" message box:

"Error code 80040256. File
C:\...\CONTENT\channel_audio_unavailable.srnd is invalid"

I get a similar error message (referencing a .srnd file) even after the
channels are finished downloading. And the download takes forever - 10
minutes to download an 8MB file? - I'm on 10 megabit/second broadband
here. (I just found the download speed setting in Preferences, looks
like the default is 40KB, which I changed to unlimited, but the
downloads are still quite slow).

On the Squeezebox, with the AF plugin installed as directed, when I
select Internet Radio -> Audio Feast -> Marketplace (one of the channels
showing as downloaded in the AF interface), I see only: No Channels
Available.

Aside from these problems, I don't see what the advantage is of having
every selected channel downloaded to my PC every day (whether I want to
listen to it or not) instead of streaming on demand. The four channels
I downloaded took 131MB of disk space.

Ok Roger, let's take another look. The plugin DOES WORK, I'm listening
right now, so we just need to figure out what's different.
When last we left off, it looked like Slim::Music::Info::isURL() didn't
understand the idea of the live365 playlist handler.

On the assumption that that's been fixed, get the latest version of
Slimserver, run it with --d_plugins, and try to tune to a Live365
station. Please send everything after the "Logging in" message until a
few seconds after it fails to play.

Also, and I apologize if I've already asked this, can you please post
details about the system Slimserver is running on and your internet
connection?

Cheers,
Jim

I've got similar symptoms. The Squeezebox shows my channels, but when
I go to play them I get "No Channels Available".

Can you play a channel from the AudioFeast interface, or do you get an
error box?

Steve,

Are you running SlimServer as a Windows service ("Start automatically"
was checked during installation) or an application?

Thanks,

Plays fine in Windows from the AudioFeast app, yeah.

Additionally, trying this a few more times, I found it randomly
crashed the server two or three times when I tried to play. Once it
left the SerenadeStreamer.exe process running after the crash.

Typically I run it as a service, yeah. I just tried it twice by
running the perl script directly and it crashed when I tried to play
or get more info on the program. The output window (not running any
debug flags) read:

Month '12' out of range 0..11 at C:/Program
Files/SlimServer/server/Plugins/AudioFeast/Plugin.pm line 846
Win32::OLE(0.1701): GetOleObject() Not a Win32::OLE object at
C:/Perl/site/lib/Win32/OLE/Lite.pm line 154.

I ran the EXE with -d_plugins and got those same two lines of errors
before it crashed.

I'm running the 12-10 nightly 5.4.x build.

I'm not Steve, but as I posted the first response to your email about
the AudioFeast plugin I'll answer anyway - I'm running SlimServer as a
service.

But why doesn't AudioFeast work from its own interface? See my first
post on this thread for complete details.
