Logitech Announces Plans for Revived Squeezebox Music Player Line Lausanne, Switzerland
April 1, 2015

The Company is proud to announce a return to the networked music player market with a revival of its ground breaking Squeezebox line of networked music players. During the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2015 the Company plans to release:

Squeezebox Touch II
Squeezebox Radio II
Squeezebox Boom II
Transporter Deluxe
Squeezebox Portable

All players will coordinate with existing Squeezebox players and Logitech Media Server (LMS). New players will contain additional features, including powerful processors with the ability to run LMS internally, access music files via USB, SD Card, or network connected file server. All players will natively play up to 32/384 files across most file codec types. The engineering team responsible for LMS will be expanded effective immediately with sufficient resources to address all reported software bugs and wishlist items from the logitech forum users.

In an associated move, Logitech announced the purchase of Spotify, Qobuz, and Tidal music streaming services. The newly-branded LogiMusic© will offer compressed file streaming free to owners of Squeezebox devices. CD quality streams will be available for $4.99/month for Squeezebox device owners. Non-owners may subscribe to compressed streams for $4.99/month or CD quality streams for $9.99/month.

In related news, Neil Young announces that Pono will be shutting down effective immediately in light of the Logitech announcement. Careful observers of the video clip Neil Young posted making this announcement noted a Logitech Squeezebox Touch player connected to the stereo system to Mr. Young's right, apparently displaying the cover from Devo's debut album.

No such limitation here, across the pond.

yep, it makes me sad too, given that this *should* be the announcement. Squeezeboxes and LMS are still the premier way to deal with digital music streaming.

p.s. Neil Young really did like Devo and had plans for recording with them at some point.

I've never heard that limit in the US either. But in any case, where I live its not noon yet. :p

I liked this one :)

Especially how to use people's defiecent attention span for kicks , the text starts reasonably credible , but after a while it goes of a tangent to being more and more ridiculous .

Yes, I thought the "LogiMusic" streaming service was a strong message that this was April Fools!

More a wish list than an April fools day joke eh Gary? ;)

For me, now that I can make a pretty decent headless player with a Raspberry Pi, I2S DAC and a pretty case - all for less than £100 ($150) - I don't think I would ever spend more money than that on a streamer again. If I were really into hi-fi and wanted the best possible sound I might spend the money on an external DAC which is where the real audible differences are made, rather than the streamer which simply decodes network 1s and 0s and turns them into a form that a DAC can decode.

The real magic with the Squeezebox system lies in LMS, and the many willing volunteers here that keep it running. Those of us addicted to BBC radio are eternally indebted to the likes of BPA, Triode, Expectingtofly, Bonze and others without whom we would be resorting to bluetoothing from our iPhones to some crappy little speaker like some of my trendy friends in the "meeja" (gruesome thought :( )

Very true. But for some, the additional ingredient is the mysqueezebox.com in the background. Without this, things like Pandora and SiriusXM won't work. ickStream is helping in some regard with some services. For me, all I care about is SiriusXM, because my wife listens to a lot of its Public Radio channels. For my own music and (for now) Spotify, I can soldier on without mysb.com.

Gary this is evil - I believed it for a good 10 seconds. It was even more credible knowing that, last week I was in one of these consumer multimedia shops and they now all have a special place for multi room audio with a nice display of Sonos, Bose and Samsung systems and -finally- people that know what it is about :(

Yes, it's true. I'm guilty as charged. Of course that's what makes for a good April Fools post vs. the "Elvis sighted in Texarkana, Texas grocery store....." in the first line. And of course I do secretly hope that Logitech will some day be making that announcement. I don't really need the hardware but I like the idea of a continued "life" for Squeezeboxes and mysqueezebox.com in the background.
