A quick thought may be DHCP and ARP issues. I have had this problem
recently.

Subject: [slim] Periodic loss of contact with slim

Well, here's my latest issue. Around 7 pm this evening, one of my
squeezeboxes (I have two) decided it couldn't find the slimserver. It's
connected to the slimserver through a switch, powerline and then a router.
I know that the switch-->powerline-->hub connection is good because other
machines using that path are fine. And yet, three or four times starting at
and since 7 pm (including right now), the squeezebox says it can find
slimserver (the other one, using wireless-->powerline-->router-->slimserver
is fine). If the pattern holds, the "broken" slimserver will stay as such
for awhile, then go back to being connected. Anyone?
