View Full Version : artwork problems

I'm having some problems getting album artwork to show up properly,
and I'm not sure if it's a bug, PEBKAC, or some combination of the
above.

I have my music in a directory hierarchy, which holds to this
convention:

/music/mp3/$ARTIST/$ALBUM/$TRACK-$TITLE.mp3

A few of these directories have cover.jpg files inside the $ALBUM
directories.

I also have some files in

/music/album_artwork/$ALBUM.jpg

files. (These are all covers for compilation albums, where I don't
want to have 20 copies of the same file.)

In the 'Interface' tab, the 'Artwork' option is set to
'%ALBUM.jpg'. (I've also tried just '%ALUBM'; doesn't seem to make
any difference.) 'Artwork Thumbnail' is blank. 'Artwork Folder' is
'/music/album_artwork'. 'Thumbnail Size' is 100, and 'Browse By
Artwork' is set to 'Delete placeholders from the list'.

The problem is that the server seems to find files very
intermittently, and sometimes will only display a cover in 'Browse
Artwork' after I manually browse to the album folder or view a
specific song from that album. I've tried rescanning the library
multiple times, to no avail. I just tried clearing the cache and
starting fresh, and that seems to have gotten it at least to the
point where it's finding the 'cover.jpg' files in the /music/mp3
directory, but it's not finding the ones in /music/album_artwork/.

Anyway, just looking for "known bug" or "not a bug" or "report it"
sorts of responses. My goal is to get as much album art for my
collection as I can, but if the support for that isn't quite ready
for primetime, I'll concentrate on something else for a bit. 8^)=

(In case it matters, Linux server with the 5.4 Slimserver,
Squeezebox, Mac web clients (Firefox and Safari), and around 1600
albums/800 artists/11,000 songs.)

thanks,
john.

Artowrk Thumnail is the image that appears in Browse Artwork, while the Artwork
refers to images in the browse album and in the status pane. If you leave it
blank, then only cover.jpg (et al) will be used. Try entering %ALBUM in the
Artwork Thumnail and rescan. For more information, please see Help->technical
information->Artwork Setup

Right, thanks, that seems to have done the trick -- although I had
to dump the cache; a simple rescan wasn't sufficient. Is that
expected behavior?

cheers,
john.

sorry, yes. I should have said wipe cache.
